can a Raintree be pruned? We live in South Carolina.

You can prune a golden raintree. Wait until this winter when the tree is dormant or early spring just as new growth begins. Raintrees develop flowers on the new growth of the season so pruning just before new growth begins is the general practice for these trees. Best wishes with your landscape.
