plants purchased have bloomed and make more blossoms which fall off before blooming. Am I watering them too much? Do they need more Sun. They are still in the pots I bought them in.

High temperatures and low light intensity will result in flower bud drop on the chrysanthemum plants so I'd move them to a sunnier spot to help avoid the bud drop. Hope this helps!
