I live in Birmingham AL, and I wanted to add some flowering trees to my yard but none larger than 5 feet tall. I want low maintenance trees and bushes that stay pretty for a while. Any ideas?

Semi-dwarf crape myrtles will remain 6' or under. They have lovely spring blooms and if you prune them immediately after they have finished flowering you'll often get a second flush of blooms later in the season. Or, you might consider growing dwarf fruit trees - peaches or mandarins or oranges. All will flower and remain evergreen and other than periodic pruning, won't require much care. Enjoy your garden!
