Mulberry trees are either dioecious or monoecious, and sometimes will change from one sex to another. They are wind pollinated and some cultivars will set fruit without any pollination. Black mulberry is the most reliably self-fertile tree. There are only a few cultivars of the black mulberry. ?Chelsea? is the most popular and most productive in terms of fruit set.
