I just realized that some of my bulbs are popping thru. If I cover them with some pine needles or mulch will it save them? I am in NW part of NC and after snow we have had some nice weather.

You can place pine needles over your premature bulbs. The foliage is quite hardy, though, and if the weather gets too cold it will simply sit there until things warm up again. Usually there's no damage and they will resume growth when the temperature suits them. Enjoy your garden!
