Can you suggest varieties for zone 9 as well as what might be killing my plants before they are able to ripen

You didn't give specific information about which plants are affected and what the symptoms are so I can't really diagnose the problem. Lots of things can kill plants: weather, diseases, even insect infestation. If you provide more information, we may be able to diagnose the problem and help you save your plants.
