I plan to plant 2-15 Gal trees, 13-5 Gal. shrubs & 11-1 Gal. groundcover in my back yard (30'X60'). What do you think of: Bouganvilla |
I think the plants you've chosen are excellent. All are desert adapted, all are low-water use, and with the excption of the bougainvillea, won't need much care at all. None are considered invasive. Your bougainvillea and your lantana will need pruning 2-3 times a year to keep them looking neat and compact, and to promote flowering. The flowers of a Jacarana are beautiful in the spring so that's a good choice. it's also semi-evergreen so unless the winter is really cold, it will always have foliage. Sisso trees (Dahlbergia) have small, light green, oval shaped leaves. They don't look desert-like at all and are magnets to butterflies. They can grow quite large unless they are pruned, but they take well to pruning. Aside from a little required maintenance, I think your choices are terrific! |
