i have no grass as the people i bought the home from laid cement, typical here in hawaii.... what are some tips to liven up the yard with out grass im talking mostly about flowers, pots, etc.

With all that concrete, sounds like container gardening is in order! You can plant individual pots of flowers and vegetables or you can build raised beds directly atop the concrete. You'll want to make sure that there's adequate drainage at the bottom of the raised beds but you can build beds out of concrete blocks, plastic timber or wood and fill them with topsoil or you can arrange various shapes and sizes of pots and do your gardening. Choose the plants and veggies you like most or visit the following website for ideas on selecting native plants:

Native plants generally do not require a lot of maintenance, nor do they need a lot of supplemental water, if conservation is high on your list of priorities. I hope the publication is helpful.
