If the yellow bugs are soft-bodied, they're probably aphids and soapy water should kill them. The fatty acids in soap or in commercially prepared Insecticidal soap will dissove the skins of the pests. You're likely to continue to have problems before you finally get the population under control because aphids give birth to live young, which are capable of producing live young. So, you could several generations of aphids feeding on your plant, all at the same time. A strong stream of water from the hose, or repeat applications of Insecticidal soap or soapy water will eventually reduce the population of the pests. Be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves, the stems and the flower buds on a regular basis. Good luck with your gardenia.
