Find a spot with morning sun but shade from hot afternoon sunshine and plant your carrots and snow peas now (in January). They will have plenty of time to grow and mature before the hot weather arrives. You'll want to amend your planting bed with sand or organic matter so the soil is nice and loose for the carrots. If the soil is hard, the carrots will be forked or misshapen. Snow peas will benefit from rich soil, as well, so work some compost into their planting bed, too. Keep your plants watered as necessary and you'll have a wonderful harvest. Enjoy!
