I'd like to plant a bare-root thompson seedless grape vine. does it need to be staked? what sun requirements and watering requirements are necessary? Blessings, beth |
Grapevines are vigorous growers and will need a trellis or fence on which to climb. Staking will keep the plant upright. If you do not stake it or attach it to a support structure it will sprawl on the ground and any fruit it develops can be damaged by insects and diseases. Choose a sunny spot to plant your grapes. They need copious amounts of water which will change as the vine matures. Water deeply twice a week in the summer months; once a week during the spring and fall and once every 10-14 days during the winter dormant season. Enjoy your grapevines! |
