For an area 20 ft long x 3 feet wide, how much spacing should I have between shrubs such as japanese boxwood?

Japanese boxwoods grow from 3 to 5 feet wide. If you want a thick hedge, plant them three to four feet apart. This will give each plenty of room to grow and yet allow them to grow together and develop into a hedge.
