how & when do I prune dwarf crepe myrtle bushes |
Crepe myrtle blooms on the new growth of the season so pruning it back in early spring, just as new growth begins should result in lots of new, flowering wood. You can prune it back again after it has finished blooming and it will grow and bloom again later in the season. I like to prune my crape myrtle all over for a uniform look and then reach inside and remove some of the oldest branches and stems, cutting them back at random lengths to promote healthy new growth on the inside of the shrub.
