can I plant tomatoes in same small space this spring? I did plant the Rye seeds for nitrogen as I do each fall.

The only concern in planting the same crops in the same garden spot is overwintering insect and disease problems present and ready to attack the crop. If your tomato plants were healthy last year, there's no reason you cannot plant new tomato plants in the same garden spot - especially if you planted rye to replenish the soil. I'd mix some compost into the soil prior to planting, too. Hope you have a great harvest!
