Do you trim artichoke plants? Ours seem to be crawling on ground. Do the artichokes just grow out of the center?

Artichokes are perennial plants in your warm-winter region. Cut the flower stalks down when you harvest the 'chokes, then cut the whole plant back to about 1' tall in the winter, and tie the leaves together to protect the crown from frost. In the spring, untie the leaves, and cut down to the ground any that have turned yellow. New leaves, and new stems will develop from the center of the plant.
