Feeding cacti and succulents - Knowledgebase Question

I am a beginner growing succulents and cacti. I have heard mixed thoughts on fertilizing the two. I've heard they don't need it at all, and some do at different times etc. I am not sure what opinion to heed after. Do succulents and cacti need to be fertilized? Do succulents and cacti have different fertilization needs? How often, and what fertilizer? Thank you so, so much!

Cacti and succulents really do not need to be fertilized. They are tough, resilient plants and are relatively slow growing. Since fertilizer encourages growth, feeding them is counter-productive. If you force growth it will be weak and it could collapse. I'd leave the plants alone, watering as necessary, but not feeding them.
