We just put in a new trellis over our stairway by the pool.
I am looking for a fast growing plant, preferably one that flowers--any suggestions?

For a trellis in a sunny spot you have many choices for a blooming vine. Annual vines such as nasturtium, morning glory, moonflower, cypress vine, purple hyacinth bean, and cardinal climber grow quickly and bloom but will need to be replaced each year.

Perennial vines to consider if your trellis is large and very sturdy are the native honeysuckles such as Lonicera heckrotti, the fall blooming sweet autumn clematis, or the trumpet creeper. If your trellis is a bit delicate, you might try one of the smaller members of the lovely clematis family.
