How do you grow cucumbers -- is it best to grow on hills? |
Many gardeners grow their cucumbers in hills, but you can also trellis them as described here http://www.garden.org/qanda/ng... Cucumbers grow best in a rich, neutral to sweet soil with ample organic matter worked in and plenty of water during the growing season. These are warm season plants so wait until the soil is warm to plant them either as seeds or transplants. Select disease tolerant varieties and use floating row covers to deter pests, especially if these have been a problem in the past. While some gardeners use hills or trellis, in my experience they grow fine in rows with plants spaced about eight inches apart and the rows about five feet apart, too. |
