About the only containers that will crack in freezing weather are unglazed terra cotta pots so if you use plastic, wood or glazed ceramic pots you won't lose them over the winter months to cold weather. Plastic containers are inexpensive but usually last only about 3 years; wood containers will last 5 or more years and glazed ceramic containers will last the longest. Be sure that any container you use has adequate drainage holes on the bottom so excess water can drain out.
