I'm looking for the name of a non vining Clematis that will ramble and augment color during the summer for a lilac and cotinus bush. Are there varieties that are bright in color? Yellow or perhaps white?

The are several white flowerng non-vining varieties of clematis. Consider one of the following:

Clematis integrifolia Alba springs back from the ground each year like the species but with clear white flowers throughout summer.

Clematis mandschurica, a cousin to Sweet Autumn, this perennial blooms sweetly scented starry white 1" flowers in midsummer atop an open frame of simple oval leaves.

Clematis Mrs Robert Brydon is a large, rambling perennial that will mix and mingle in your border or may be tied up to a trellis. The plant blooms heavily from mid summer until frost.

Or, Clematis jouiniana praecox, with a sprawling habit which makes it suitable for ground cover but it can also be propped up to make a focal point it has white flowers tinged with purple and flowers from mid summer through autumn.

Hope these suggestions are helpful.
