Last year we had three maples planted in our backyard behind a three foot brick retaining wall. The leaves seemed to start out well, but are continuously wilted curled and have some small brown spots. Even after extensive rainy
periods the leaves remain wilted. Do have any suggestions on what this might be?

Plants will wilt under excess moisture as well as too little. In either situation, the roots aren't able to take up enough water to satisfy the plant's needs. The drainage behind the retaining wall may be poor, or the trees were planted in holes filled with enriched soil, and moisture is pooling there as it drains from the surrounding soil. Also, their roots may have suffered damage during transplanting, and it's taking a long time for them to recover. You may be able to improve drainage with help from a landscaper. Best of luck!
