I had the pleasure of visiting the Philadelphia Flower Show and saw a plant called Bears Breeches - acanthus mollis "Latifolius". I was wondering if you could give me some information on this plant. What zone it can be grown in, how much sun it needs, where I can buy the plant. Pretty much any info would be appreciated.

Acanthus mollis Latifolius should be hardy to zone 6, although the species is less hardy. Be sure to mulch it well during the winter and provide it with a site that is well drained in winter. In my experience, this plant does well in sun to part shade under average border conditions. Perennial specialty nurseries carry it occasionally, including Carroll Gardens (800-638-6334) 444 East Main Street, PO Box 310, Westminster, MD 21157.
