|Can Artichokes grow in Bend, Oregon at about 4,500ft? If so, how best to do it?
|Because the summers are hot in your region, you can successfully harvest artichokes at the end of the season. You can grow them from seed sown directly in the garden, or started indoors. You can even plant rooted transplants divided from existing plants. Grow artichokes in the sunniest location in your garden, in well-amended soil. Water deeply each week during the growing season, supplying about one inch of water each time. At the end of the season cut the foliage down to about 12" and mulch heavily. The plants may survive over winter and grow again the following spring. If not, plant new artichokes for harvesting at the end of the season.|
