USDA Zones are rather broad categories and don't often take into consideration the microclimates involved with elevation or proximity to bodies of water. Gardeners in the western United States have a more detailed resource in the zones as defined in Sunset Western Garden Book. They place you in zone 8, with a mild climate and relatively warm winter temperatures. You can grow most any vegetable in your garden during the summertime. A copy of the book should be available in your local library and will serve as a helpful guide in providing suggestions on which plants will thrive in your area.
