| Every Type of squash, cucumber or melon, even resistant varieties seem to end up with powdery mildew. I've tried fungicides and different locations and still have the problem. As soon as mid season and the hot weather arrives, the leaves show symptoms. It starts with a powdery residue look to the leaves, the plant then stops growing; the leaves yellow and wilt and the plant slowly dies. Even your resistant variety of oriental zucchini type of squash falls victim. I've been gardening for many years and in different locations. Where I live now is the only place I've had this problem. Any suggestions? |
| Perhaps there must be something unique to this location? The usual preventive measures used for mildew (and other foliar problems) include exceptional garden sanitation (clean up and remove all traces of infested plants as they happen and at the end of the season), avoiding watering at night or wetting the leaves, increasing air circulation, rotating crops, and growing resistant varieties. Finally, you might wish to contact your County Extension for their most current control recommendations -- often timing is very important when spraying for diseases. |
