When my japanese maple blooms it is a nice purple -reddish color. Then it turns green mid-June and stays this way until Fall. Otherwise the tree is very healthy. It used to stay a nice purple-reddish color all summer. I have researched your library to find out why it does this. I have plenty of sunshine because the tree is in in the middle of my yard. Any help you can give me for this problem is appreciated. |
A healthy Japanese maple tree is always a joy and in many of the Japanese maples such seasonal color change is considered an ornamental benefit; a possible explanation of why the plant might have stayed red that first year is stress. Once it became established it returned to its normal seasonal coloring pattern. These changes can vary from variety to variety. If your design calls for one that stays red all summer you might need to select a different variety of Japanese maple. |
