I recently started some "Fourth of July" tomatoes from seed. I know that you are supposed to place them one to two inches from a flourescent light but do you need to turn the light off at any time? I was told all plants do their growing at night while sleeping. Is this true or just a myth?

Most gardeners set the lights on a timer set for 14 to 16 hours. Photosynthesis certainly requires light, but there are processes that go on without light, so I don't think they ever sleep per se!
