If you have a sunny windowsill, you can grow herbs indoors. Most herbs will get by with a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Herbs prefer soil on the dry side, so don't water as often as you water houseplants or the herbs will be unhappy. Wait until the soil dries out before watering thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry out again before watering again. Basil, chives, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, savory, tarragon and thyme are especially well suited to growing in containers.
