The name sounds very mysterious, but it refers to the common bedding plant known as Nasturtium. These annual plants are easy to grow in all kinds of soil, in a sunny or lightly shaded garden bed. The foliage is bright green and lobed, and the flowers come in all colors except blue. Some kinds of Nasturtium form compact mounds and others are climbing and vining in habit. Nasturtium foliage and flowers are edible; many people savor the peppery flavor in salads. Nasturtiums are easy, care-free additions to beds, borders or baskets.
