You pose a very difficult question to answer! Plants growing in containers will need to be watered more frequently than plants growing in a garden bed. The more often you apply water, the more minerals and nutrients will be washed away. Therefore, you should fertilize more often, but if you apply too much fertilizer at one time, the roots of the plants can be burned. The easiest way to overcome this problem is to use a half-strength diluted liquid fertilizer and apply twice as often. To be on the safe side, you could substitute a fertilizer solution for one regular watering every 3-4 weeks. This should keep a constant supply of nutrients available to your plants, but not overwhelm them with too strong a dose.
