Grow Light Conditions - Knowledgebase Question

Question by bogees

I am using grow lights to grow mature plants indoors. I have the light on 24 hours a day. Should I have it on 24 hours a day? If not, tell me how long I should turn it off for each night.

Light requirements differ from plant to plant, but I'd venture that 24 hours of light each day is excessive. Instead, give your plants 12-14 hours of light each day, turning the lights out at night. (Plants need a resting period to maintain health.) If you try to replicate the seasons (light for longer periods of time in spring and summer, shorter periods of time in autumn and winter), your plants will react by reverting to their normal cycles of growth and rest. Providing your plants with nearly ideal conditions will reduce stress and encourage good performance.
