|How long should it take for Pole beans to sprout? I am starting to get discouraged. Is there anything special I can do to help them?
|Beans prefer soil temperatures of at least 60F and air temperatures of 70F - 80F degrees. If the soil is cold, the beans will be slow to sprout. In warm soils, you should expect germination within 8-16 days. If your beans have not sprouted, dig one up to see what's happening beneath the soil. If the seeds are just sitting there, the soil may be too dry or too cold. If they've begun to sprout but haven't reached the soil surface, they may be planted too deeply. Finally, if you dig and find no seeds at all, it's possible a hungry bird followed behind you as you were planting and robbed your garden of bean seeds!|
