| I am growing sweet peas in cell packs. At first the seedlings stood straight up, but when they got to about a foot tall, they fell over. Do I need to put something in the container for their tendrils to attach to so that they grow straight up or should I not be trying to grow them them in six packs at all? |
| It's okay to start sweet peas indoors, but they should be put out into the garden 6 to 8 weeks after sprouting. Otherwise, as you've discovered, they'll need support to keep them upright. The seedlings want to grow upright, not trail down or go sideways, so if you can prop them up, they'll be sturdier and healthier. Lean the foliage against a support of some kind, but don't attach the tendrils or they may not want to give up their grip when you plant them outdoors! Sounds like they're large enough to go out into the garden, as soon as the weather cooperates. |
