I live in southern California , zone 9, and I would like to know what kind of apple tree that would grow well here since our cold hours are low.

Apple trees require some winter chill in order to produce fruit, but there are three cultivars that should do well in your gardening region. 'Pettingill' is a mid-to late season apple, which is large, red-blushed green to full red, with firm, white flesh. 'Winter Banana' also has a low winter chill requirement and produces large, pale yellow, pink blushed fruit. 'Winter Pearmain' produces medium to large pale greenish to yellowish apple with tender fine-grained flesh. To insure pollination, grow two apple trees in your yard.
