I've planted Celebrity tomatoes in 8 inch bed with a 2/3 to1/3 mixture of soil to musroom soil. I'm seeing the leaves on these tomatoes turning golden in color throughout the plant. Should I be getting concerned yet? |
The leaves should not be turning color -- they should be a nice healthy green. Unfortunately I can't diagnose the exact reason for the change long distance, but one possible reason is that the plants were not fully conditioned prior to planting. By this I mean they need to be hardened off or gradually acclimated to being outdoors in the sun and wind and weather. If this isn't done the plants can "sunburn" and turn an unusual golden or even white sort of color. Another possibility is that there is something in the soil which is causing them to change color; if you suspect this is the case you might wish to consult with your County Extension (394-6851) to see if they can give you a more detailed identification of the problem and any possible remedy. |
