| The best way to do this is to wait until the foliage has had time to grow and replenish the bulbs and has begun to dry and wither naturally. Once they have gone dormant, carefully dig the bulbs being as careful as possible not to damage them. Shake off excess dirt and allow them to dry off thoroughly in the sun for a few days, then store them in single layers in a dark and airy place that does not get too hot. (An attic would be too hot. A garage would probably be okay, especially if it is attached to an air-conditioned house and the adjoining doors are used occasionally.) You can keep them in paper bags or on screens in single layers, check them periodically and remove any that seem to be rotting. Replant in the fall. |
