A general rule of thumb for bulb planting is to place them 2 1/2 times as deep as the width of the bulb. This formula will accommodate both small and large bulbs. For special circumstances use the following guidelines: If your soil is light and sandy, plant a little deeper (dig a 7 inch deep hole for small bulbs and a 10 inch hole for larger bulbs). If your soil is heavy, plant shallow (3 inches for small bulbs, 6 inches for larger bulbs). Hope this helps!
