|We just bought a house that has a steep slope in the back, currently they have planted Ivy (new plants), but I would like to have some ground cover that will also give some color year round.
I like it to be low maintenance, low growth, prevent possible erosion. Area has plenty of sun, it faces south east direction. Please give me some suggestions of kind of plants I can replace the ivy, before it takes over.
|Many groundcovers will give seasonal color, but none will give you color year around unless you choose an evergreen plant with variegated foliage. Some groundcover type plants that will grow in full sunshine include Ajuga (Carpet Bugle), Vinca minor (Periwinkle), Aptenia cordifolia 'Red Apple', Gazinia, Ice Plant or Ground Morning Glory. Each of these will remain green throughout the year and will provide spring or summer blossoms.|
