|I'm trying to find the botanical name and info about growing requirements and where I might buy star jasmine.
It grows as a perennial in my area, covers fences, and blooms in late summer I think, with very fragrant tiny white flowers.
|I think you are referring to Trachelospermum jasminoides. It climbs with support to about 20 feet. Without support, and by pinching back, it can be a spreading shrub or groundcover at about 2 feet tall by 5 feet wide. It takes full sun, but will do better with afternoon shade in hot areas. It needs regular watering. It does best if planted in improved soil with plenty of compost. It's a slow to moderate grower, and can be damaged by cold temperatures of 20 degrees F or below. It also requires some maintenance or it can get a bit straggly over time. But the fragrance of it's flowers makes up for that!
I have seen the plant available at full-service nurseries. Or you can purchase it mail order from Forest Farm, 541-846-7269, web site www.forestfarm.com
