| A cutting garden can contain both annuals and perennials. You can plant several shades of one color, or plants with several different flower colors and shapes to add variety to your flower arrangements. As with any garden bed, dig the soil to remove weeds, then amend with aged-compost, peat, aged-manure or leaf mold to help loosen the soil and enrich it. It's best to find the sunniest site possible because most flowering plants require 6-8 hours of direct sunshine each day. Your bed can be neat and tidy with plants placed in rows, or a riot of plants growing wherever you sow seeds. Plants that provide the best flowers for cutting include Snapdragon, Calendula, China Aster, Cornflower, Spider Flower, Larkspur, Cosmos, Dianthus, Lisianthus, Strawflower, Phlox, Scabiosa, Alstroemeria, Aster, Chrysanthemem, Coreopsis, Dahlia, Delphinium, Purple Coneflower, Gerbera, Gladiolus, Liatris, Ranunculuc, Gloriosa Daisy, and Zinnia. |
