I recently moved into a new house and have noticed this Spring that in spots one big tulip leaf has come up but no flower. What are these? And can I dig them up and somehow replant them to produce a flower next year?

It is possible that this is not a tulip but some other bulb entirely. In my experience, the somewhat unusual but lovely Lycoris squamigera ("Forgotten Lily" or "Resurrection Lily" also called "Mystery Lily" and "Hardy Amaryllis") can seem like this in the spring. If you allow the foliage to grow and ripen, you may be rewarded by a suddenly appearing and fast growing blooming stem in late summer. Rather than do anything, you might want to mark the spots and wait and see what happens.
