We had a large fire ant mound right by several pole bean plants that were only about 5-6 inches tall. We treated the fire ant mound with Orthene and the ants are gone. We are wondering if the beans will produce? If so, will they be safe to eat?

They will produce. Regarding safety, it is not possible for us to offer assurances of safety when a product is used in a manner contrary to the label instructions. You may want to contact the manufacture of the product and discuss the issue with them. Their number may be on the label. If not the nursery where you purchase it may be able to put you in touch with a local sales representative who could advise you.
