What do the different designations such as "VF" "VFN" and VFFN" on seed packets and store bought seedlings mean?

The letters correspond to the resistance of that particular variety of plant to Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt (race 1 and/or race 2, and Nematodes. If you've experienced disease problems with the plants in your garden, you'll want to chose seeds that will grow the most resistant plants possible. Hope this clarifies things for you!
