Carnation's in Wisconsin - Knowledgebase Question

I purchased a "Dwarf Carnation". I don't know if it will survive our winters here in Wisconsin or not. Do I have to cover it with a cone like I would a rose bush? Or just leave it? It is planted in a sunny well drained area (away from the house) with mulch around it.

There are over 300 species and countless hybrids so it's difficult to tell whether your carnation is an annual, perennial or biennial plant! I'd just leave it where it's planted and hope for the best. If it returns it's perennial. If not, well, at least you had one summer's worth of pleasure from it!
