Carpenter Bees - Knowledgebase Question

We have carpenter bees boring holes into the posts that hold up my garden fence. I hate to just kill them. We have tried using soap on the wood, but they come back. If we fill a hole they have already drilled they just find another spot. Is there anything I can do naturally short of killing them to get them to leave the wood alone? I hate to squish them. Help!

These relatively gentle bees prefer soft wood that is unsealed and weathered but will also infest treated wood. To avoid infestation, paint or varnish the wood. You can also try to prevent nests from becoming established because the bees will bore into wood close to their nests. You might find the information at this web site helpful:
