I've noticed a white fuzzy looking growth on the top of the soil of my houseplants. It seems to be spreading in each pot. Is it some type of fungus? How do I control it?

In all probability the white material you see is some sort of mineral build-up. To control it you can carefully scrape away the top layer of the soil, and then water your plants heavily with plain water, allow them to drain and then repeating several times. This should leach out the excess minerals. Sometimes the build-up is also a sign that your plants need to be repotted using some fresh soil.
