|I recently bought a flower called a partyfun papaver. I liked the picture on the card. My question is what exactly is it? A poppy? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
|Papavar is indeed a poppy. "Partyfun" would be the name of the variety of poppy you have. I suspect it is an oriental poppy which is a perennial. Perennial poppies are sunlovers and are quite easy to grow. This plant displays rough looking dark green leaves in spring and blooms in late spring. Eventually it will go dormant for the summer and the leaves will die back until fall when they resprout a bit. The new foliage will resume growth in the spring and the plant should bloom again. These are long lived plants and do well left undisturbed. An annual topdressing of compost or well rotted stable manure and bedding as well as perhaps an application of balanced granular fertilizer should keep it happy. Enjoy your plant!
