How can you get rid of rhubarb? Our new home has perfect fenced in area for a garden. The problem is, we have a very large rhubarb plant in it. We want to remove it and plant other vegetables. I was told it is impossible to dig it up. Do you have any suggestions? Do we have to be careful of what plants we want to put there?

Most people write asking how to get their rhubarb to thrive, but it sounds like you have a "monster" plant that's taking over! Rhubarb can be a tenacious survivor, but if you keep digging at the roots it will eventually succumb. Since you want to plant vegetables, I wouldn't advise spraying it. Since the root system may continue to pop up, I'd plant crops with short maturities to harvest until you're sure you've gotten out all the rhubarb. How about inviting all your new neighbors over for a get acquainted and take a shovel to the rhubarb party? Whoever digs out the biggest chunk gets a prize! Good luck.
