This is my first time growing galdiolus. I have cut a few stalks already and the plant looks kind of funny after I cut the flowers. Can you please tell me the proper way of cutting gladiolus so that they can come back next year?

To get the most from your gladiolus, cut the stalks when the bottom third have open flowers, the middle third is just showing petal color, and the top third has unopened flower buds. Cut the stalk down to foliage level, but leave the foliage alone. The leaves provide nutrients to the underground corms. After the leaves have died back naturally, cut them off at soil level and mulch the soil surface well. In the spring new foliage will emerge, along with a single flowering stalk.
