My Hardy Hibiscus plant has produced some blue balloon type flowers this spring which are coming directly from the bottom of the stems. I don't know if this is what it is supposed to do or if I should remove these? Please help!! |
To be very honest this doesn't sound like the hardy hibiscus plants I am familiar with, either in the perennial group or in the shrub group. Is it possible it is a different plant altogether, perhaps a balloon flower such as a form of Platycoden? I would expect the perennial hibiscus to be either white, pink or red flowered with long bare stems and the shrubs are quite definitely woody plants which generally do not bloom until about mid-summer. Most of these are also pink, although there are white and a purply-blue flowered form as well. What a mystery! |
